Released by boyhood club Hull FC, Kirk Netherton made his senior debut with Doncaster in 2005 before he sustained a knee injury mid-season which resulted in him working temporarily on a building site. Having fully recovered he resurrected his career with city rivals Hull KR and made his Super League debut in 2006. After a spell at Castleford and Widnes, Daryl Powell brought him to Featherstone on a rest-of-season loan in 2011. With Ben Kaye as starting hooker, Netherton came off the bench to great success as Rovers stormed through the league campaign and won the Grand final by thrashing Sheffield. That final was his last game as, unable to agree terms and suffering from the legacy of his injuries, he decided to retire from the game.
