Lawrence Walton first played for Featherstone Rovers around Christmas 1938 and established himself at centre, inside winger Albany Longley. When World War Two broke out, Walton was on active service and was largely unavailable to the club for six years. He managed just two games whilst on leave during the conflict. He started playing again once the war was over, including a few games at stand-off, but he never recovered his regular first team spot and was transferred to York in October 1946.
