Brothers Les and Fred Wilford were signed together from Featherstone Rugby Union in August 1929. Whereas Fred was thrown straight into the first team, winger Les had to wait until February 1930 for his debut, a Challenge Cup tie at Leeds. He was described as ‘raw’ but played with ‘speed, pluck and enthusiasm’. Retained the following week for the match at Barrow Les played alongside his brother Fred, and scored Rovers' only try of the game. He played the match after too, but it was his last for the club, and his promising displays came to nothing.
