Although born in Batley, Luke Cooper signed for Rovers as a schoolboy and came through the ranks at Featherstone. In the modern age of player movement, the dependable prop is a throwback to the old days of club loyalty and is very much ‘one of our own’. He was sent to Australia on a scholarship as a teenager and came back ready for first team football in 2015.

After a handful of games in his debut season, Cooper became an integral part of Jon Sharp's 2016, used off the bench. Straight running and non-stop tackling in his trademark scrum-cap were his uncomplicated attributes, appreciated by the coaches who succeeded Sharp. Jon Duffy used him more as a starting prop in 2018, from where he scored his first career try after four years of trying. He reached new heights of consistency in 2019, appearing in 33 out of 34 games, including the Grand final against Toronto.

After serious recruitment in the forwards for 2021, Cooper found his place under threat, but his dependability was still required, playing in the 1895 Cup final at Wembley and helping Rovers to the Grand final. His place in that game was cruelly robbed by administrative delays over his out-of-date passport. In 2022, another heavy recruitment drive for experienced forwards looked to have left Cooper well down the pecking order behind players like Craig Kopczak, Adam Cuthbertson and Jesse Sene-Lefao among others. And yet, his hard work and consistency led Cooper to playing more matches in 2022 than any other middle, 25 of 33 matches, capping a solid season by becoming the first Featherstone Rovers player to make 100 appearances off the bench. The following season was his last at Featherstone as, after just a solitary substitute appearance, he spent most of 2023 on loan at Doncaster before joining Batley at the end of the season.

A hugely popular and likeable clubman Luke Cooper served Featherstone Rovers with distinction for a decade through various levels of junior and senior rugby.
