A local product who was selected for the BARLA Colts tour to Australia alongside David Hobbs in 1977.  On that tour he played for the GB Under 18 side against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.  Unfortunately this turned out to be the highlight of his career as he was dogged by injuries.  Martin played with Rovers' A team for a number of seasons. He received a solitary first team call up in December 1978, and later went back to the amateur game at Featherstone Miners' Welfare. After a knee injury, he gave up playing.
