Despite having played for Bradford, Halifax, London, Barrow and Wakefield before the age of 25, Matt James had really not had an extended run of first team football anywhere when he arrived at Featherstone in 2013. That first year at Featherstone saw him grow in confidence in a front row that included Steve Crossley and Ben Kaye. His career finally began to take off, and he used his size and stature to good advantage against Championship defences. After three seasons in the front-row he moved to Sheffield and quickly became pack leader and club captain there.
