Matty Wray’s career began at Wakefield, with a number of first team outings as a teenager in Super League. He dropped down a level and signed for Featherstone in 2004, where he quickly looked at home on the opposite flank to the prolific Jamie Stokes. 17 tries in 32 games in his first year showed his class and finishing skills, but the following year he was restricted by injury and Rovers were relegated. He came back the following year, playing most of the 2006 season in National League Two, but was less prolific than before his injury. He retired on medical grounds at the end of that season aged just 23.
