Having started at Leeds in 1947 once his National Service was over, Maurice Ogden’s career at Headingley was not making much progress when he came to Featherstone in October 1951. There is joined up with his older brother Jack, who had previously joined Rovers in 1944. Maurice marked his debut with a couple of tries, but over the course of his first season he didn’t do quite enough to be included in the travelling squad for Wembley which did include his brother Jack. However, the following year was a good one for Maurice, when he became a regular in the second row. A serious knee injury the next season kept him out for over a year. He bravely made a comeback in 1955, but found it too difficult to reclaim his first team spot.

Decades later, his grandson James Barraclough debuted for Featherstone Rovers in 2018, on loan from Leeds Rhinos.
