Originally from Normanton, Neil Gray was signed from Doncaster towards the end of the 1979/80 seasons when Featherstone had virtually clinched the Second Division Championship. A goal kicking hooker who spent two seasons in Rovers’ A team as understudy to Ray Handscombe, when he was given the occasional first team outing he let no-one down. A likeable player who worked as an electrician at Sharlston colliery in his playing days, he was unable to break into the first team and so signed for Hunslet. In later life, he emigrated to New Zealand.
