Nelson Tennant was a half-back who made his debut in the same season as his brother Walter, at Huddersfield in March 1940, where he grabbed a debut try. With the likes of Harold Moxon, Ray Hamer and later Jack Higgins as competition, opportunities were scarce for Nelson and he played a total of nine games spread over five seasons.

He also had the highly unusual experience of lining up against Featherstone in a match whilst still a Rovers player.  When St. Helens arrived for a match in November 1941 they were a man short. As he was Rovers’ reserve that day, Nelson Tennant played on the wing for Saints.
