Norman Reeves was a player in Rovers junior days before entry into the senior ranks.  He signed for Rovers as long ago as August 1914 from Sharlston.  He was put straight into the first team and played a part in a run of 13 consecutive league wins.  During the First World War he played for Batley but he returned to Rovers after the war, and played in the centre for the team that ran riot in the junior ranks for two seasons.  In 1919/20 it is reported he scored 43 tries in a single season.  The next season he was made captain and this may have affected his play because his name doesn’t appear so often among the reported try scorers.  In 1920 he had to go into hospital and the captaincy passed to Bill Seymour. 

Norman Reeves was made captain again for Rovers entry into the senior ranks and he captained the side in the first ever game against Bradford Northern on 27th August 1921.  Unfortunately in Rovers first ever home league game against Hull on 3^rd September 1921 he suffered a serious injury and on his return to the side after recovering from that injury he broke his arm and did not play again that season.  For the second time he gave up the captaincy, this time to John Willie Higson.  While Norman was suffering injuries Jim Denton and Jack Hirst established themselves as first choice centres.  Norman’s appearances in the first team over next few seasons were therefore sporadic though he did have a run of games on the wing in the 1924/25 season and he played his last game in October 1927.

Norman Reeves was a significant figure leading up to Rovers entry to the senior ranks and he passed away in February 1975.
