Oliver Darlison was a rough and ready prop forward with useful skills and was a renowned scrummager in the days when ball-winning was important. All clubs need an enforcer style forward and Darlison was certainly not one to take a backward step. His style did fall foul of the disciplinary panel, as his record shows: 13 September 1930 sent off v Halifax, suspended for six matches. 27 December 1930 sent off v Hunslet, suspended to 7 March 1931. 19 September 1931 sent off v Widnes, suspended to 30 November 1931. 14 March 1932 sent off v Huddersfield, no record of suspension.

At the beginning season 1933/34 he refused to resign terms and was placed on transfer list. After 121 games in the first team he was sold on to Huddersfield to raise funds for the club’s survival. Harry Lomas came to Featherstone in exchange. Oliver’s younger brother Vic also played for Featherstone, although Oliver had left the club before Vic’s debut.
