Be it at stand-off, scrum-half, hooker or off the bench, versatile distributor and organiser Paddy Handley was an integral part of the Rovers first team squad for four seasons. A former Leeds junior, Handley slotted straight into the Rovers first team as a youngster when signed by David Ward in 1997. Rovers started that transitional season with veterans Deryck Fox and Neil Summers in the halves, and finished it with Handley and another Leeds youngster Karl Pratt calling the shots. The following year, Paddy played stand-off to Ty Fallins scrum-half role, scoring nine tries that year and coming off the bench in our Grand final v Wakefield. The following year under new coach Peter Roe, Paddy was an ever present, alongside first Ryan Horsley then youngster Jamie Rooney. When Roe signed Andy Bastow to partner Rooney in 2000, Handley fell out of favour and after over 100 first team games he moved on to York then Doncaster.
