Paul Hayden was a very useful half-back from Altofts who played his junior rugby at Normanton ARLFC. He signed for Rovers in 1980 and after an A team apprenticeship, received a few opportunities to fill in at number seven for Terry Hudson. The following year under Vince Farrar he received a much more extended run, mainly at stand-off, partnering Hudson. When Farrar left, Hayden’s first team opportunities dried up with the emergence of youngster Alan Banks, and Hayden moved on.
