Local youngster Paul Wild was one of a number of options Rovers looked at during the troubled 1986/7 season in an attempt to find a settled three-quarter line. Injuries and loss of form disrupted the team to the extent that it was relegated at the end of the year. Wild did his best in an unbroken 11 game run towards the end of the season, but Rovers suffered some heavy, demoralising defeats, and the following year, Wild received just four call-ups before going back to amateur rugby.
