Speedy wingman Peter Johnson showed great promise before terrible luck with injuries forced him to retire early.  He came to Rovers from Otley R.U. club, making his debut in Jack Ogden’s Testimonial match in May 1955 as a trialist, and was signed after the game. In the opening A team fixture of 1955/56, he scored two tries, and two tries in the following game against Huddersfield, brought him rapid promotion into the senior team.  He celebrated by scoring a try on his debut v Hunslet on 29th August 1955, and continued his scoring with three more tries in the next four games.  Then his run of injuries started with a fractured jaw-bone followed by a chipped ankle bone.  In the 1956/57 season he suffered a shoulder injury and spent most of the season training determined to make a comeback.  In his comeback in the first A team game of the 1957/58 season he had the misfortune to his dislocate his right shoulder and at this point not unsurprisingly decide to retire.
