Reserve team winger Peter Stephenson, the younger brother of second-rower Jim, was called up to the first team in November 1946. That same week Rovers signed a new winger Mike Quick from Warrington, making Stephenson’s task of holding down a first team spot even more difficult. Rovers had a poor team that year, and chances for wingers were few and far between. However, Stephenson continued to serve the reserves, a good club man.
