Featherstone man Bob Jarvis was playing for Featherstone Intermediates in October 1949 when Rovers signed him up. Within a month he made his first team debut. In the face of competition from Cyril Gilbertson and Jimmy Russell, Jarvis found it difficult to establish a first team place, but the following year he had an extended run at stand-off. When Eric Batten took over as coach, he preferred youngsters Ray Cording and Ray Evans at half-back and Jarvis’s first team opportunities dried up.
