Ronnie Armitage was a popular local figure who took great pride and joy in playing for his home town team. He was essentially an A team player who received two first team call-ups during his career. A ropeman at Ackton Hall and Sharlston, he was a keen swimmer and cyclist and well known within the local community. Decades later, his son Steve Armitage was part of Daryl Powell’s backroom conditioning team.
