Born and bred in Fitzwilliam, prop Roy “Baz” Bolton slotted straight into the Featherstone first team for his debut after signing in November 1948. His progress in his second year was hampered by injury, possibly an industrial accident at the Bradley & Craven foundry at Wakefield where he worked. Nevertheless he made a comeback the following year. After more than sixty games in three years he fell out of favour, and he left to join Doncaster in the summer of 1953.
