Roy Powell was a well respected international second-row forward when he came to Featherstone during the 1995 Centenary season. In twelve seasons at Leeds and Bradford he had clocked up 300 top flight games and made two Great Britain Lions tours. A native of Dewsbury, he was on the same BARLA Under 19s tour of New Zealand as Deryck Fox before turning professional. Having played together at Bradford, the pair joined Rovers together in November 1995. Powell was renowned for his honest endeavor and his appetite for tackling.

Inevitably when Fox left for Batley, then Rochdale, Roy Powell followed suit. Tragically he died of a heart attack aged just 33 at training for Rochdale in 1998.
