When Featherstone Rovers hit an injury and availability crisis at halfback early in the 2025, they turned to Wakefield-born Ryan Hampshire to plug the gap. Aged 30 and with a wealth of Super League experience with his first club Wigan, but also Wakefield and Castleford, Hampshire had made his name as a utility back, equally at home at full-back, in the three-quarters or in the halves. On signing for Featherstone, he was still recovering from a broken arm, but once fit, he immediately slotted into a distribution role, showing he speed and acceleration, as well as his ability to take on and engage the defensive line. His place-kicking ability also came in useful when Reynolds was absent. After 18 straight games and a pivotal role in Rovers’ revival in 2025, Hampshire broke his arm again in August. When the club went into administration at the end of 2025, he left the club.
