Prop Sam Brooks was brought in by coach John Duffy on loan towards the end of the 2017 season, having previously played for a number of clubs despite being only 24. A bulky player, he did enough to win a contract for the following season. He appeared in 30 of 34 games that year, mostly off the bench, but at the end of the year followed coach Duffy to Leigh. A Scottish international, he represented his country at the 2017 World Cup.
