Shaun Irwin was best known for his time at Castleford, when at the age of 22 he won Great Britain caps and was selected for the GB tour to New Zealand. After three seasons at Oldham, he moved to Hunslet before Featherstone tempted him to sign for the 1997 season. He slotted into the centre position and showed touches of his class. When Steve Molloy left, Shaun was appointed club captain by Steve Sims and had an excellent year in 1998 leading Rovers to the Grand final and within a whisker of Super League. That was Shaun’s last game for Rovers, as he left for Hunslet and took them one step better, winning the 1999 Grand final. He retired in 2000.
