Stan Naylor signed for Featherstone from Wakefield, as cover for a three-quarter line that included Keith Goulding and Alan Tennant as middle backs. Naylor had the added advantage of being able to cover full-back for the occasional absence of Freddie Miller. After just a couple of first team games the Pontefract and Castleford Express remarked; “Naylor from Wakefield has fitted into the team admirably, and showed the same steadiness at fly-half which characterised his displays as a centre. As the reputation which follows him from Wakefield also credits him as being a capable full-back, it would appear that Rovers have made a very good buy”. He proved a useful squad man in his debut season, but managed just two more games after that.
