Steve Lyons was a a hard working front-row from East Leeds but played all his early rugby for Rovers. He had the misfortune to play in 3 losing Yorkshire Cup Finals in 1966, 1969 and 1970 and was noted to have had an especially fine match against Hull in the losing 1969 Yorkshire Cup Final team. In this era competition in the front row was intense with Tonks, Dixon et al and it was testimony to his ability that he played over 100 games during this period. In 1971 Steve transferred to Wakefield having given good service to Rovers for five seasons.
