Stocky French half-back Thomas Lacans came through the ranks at Lezignan, where he played for four seasons. He had a short loan spell at Newcastle in 2022 before joining Featherstone for 2023. Perhaps regarded as a back up before the season started, Lacans was quickly into the frontline as injuries struck. He immediately impressed with his desire to take on the line and make a break. He had a good kicking game and was a solid tackler, but never benefitted from an extended run in the side. His best performance came in an impressive win in Toulouse, but that was not enough to clinch him a place for the end of season run-in.

2024 represented a big opportunity for Lacans as various departures over the close season left Lacans as first choice halfback alongside Ben Reynolds. He took his chance well, before disaster struck twice. First, a serious ankle injury kept him out for twelve weeks. Then, on his first game back, another leg injury in Toulouse put him back on the sidelines for another 11 weeks. He played out the rest of the season and his hard work in rehabilitation was rewarded when he won his first full French cap in October 2024 v Ukraine. With Rovers recruitment for 2025 including new options at halfback, Lacans saw his place under threat. However, three tries in his first two appearances proved his worth to the squad. In March, he was granted permission to leave the club and return home to France for family reasons. He then signed for Toulouse Olympique for the remainder of 2025, playing his part in the French club’s Championship triumph in October 2025. He left behind a positive impression and as a hard-working and likeable player who enjoyed his time at Featherstone.
