A promising young forward as a junior, Tim Slatter’s professional career got off to a false start at Wakefield, but Allan Agar spotted his potential and brought him to Featherstone. What an inspired signing he turned out to be. His thirteenth game for Featherstone finished with him collecting a Challenge Cup winner’s medal from Joe Gormley at Wembley.

Originally a second-rower, Slatter quickly graduated to prop. Strong running, fearless and with the ability to offload in the tackle, he established himself as an enforcer. He collected his fair share of injuries which interrupted his progress, and when out of favour with the first team, was prepared to work hard in the reserves to earn his place back.
