Half-back Tom Holmes came through the ranks at Lock Lane and signed for Castleford as a teenager. A creative and intelligent halfback, he enjoyed few chances with the first team and followed the familiar route of being loaned out to lower league clubs. In 2018 Featherstone took an expensive punt on offering Holmes a contract, and with an extended run, he showed his class, improving match by match in a potent combination with Martin Ridyard. He then damaged his knee in the Summer Bash at Blackpool which finished his season. He had already agreed to sign for Huddersfield in Super League for 2019 before his injury, but came back to Featherstone briefly on loan purely to gain match fitness.

When the move to the Giants didn’t work out, he re-signed for Featherstone in 2021. Here he faced a season long competition against Dane Chisholm to partner Nu Brown in the halves, Holmes shining with his intelligent distribution and game management. He missed a number of games mid-season, but after regaining his starting shirt, he missed out on a Grand final appearance. Having started 2022 as first choice half-back alongside Dan Chisholm, both players quickly lost their positions to Morgan Smith and Ryley Jacks. Holmes then moved to Sheffield.
