When Tommy Haughey signed for Featherstone Rovers for the 2007 he had already spent six years as a professional at three different Super League clubs, two seasons a piece at Wakefield, London Broncos and Castleford. During his time at London he had had a two month loan spell at Featherstone Rovers in 2004 and so was already familiar with the club. Having played on the fringes of the first team squad at his first three clubs, Haughey relished the opportunity of regular first team football at Featherstone, and adapted easily to life in National League 2. His first year brought him 18 tries in his role as ball-handling loose forward.

The following year he stepped up to National League 1 and played a similar role but, with the arrival of coach Daryl Powell, Haughey was used much more at centre in 2009. This brought him 16 tries, so it was somewhat of a surprise when he was moved on to Hunslet at the end of that season. He played the rest of his career at the South Leeds Stadium, with a brief spell at York.
