Tommy Pickup started out at Agbrigg before signing for Wakefield Trinity. Brother-in-law to Hall of Fame member Jonty Parkin, Pickup enjoyed great success at Belle Vue, playing almost 250 games in nine seasons. Towards the end of his career, he joined Featherstone, and immediately struck up a fruitful half-back partnership with Charlie Annable. The following year when George Whittaker emerged as a young stand-off star, Pickup was used in the three-quarters. He retired at the end of that season.

A wire-drawer by trade, he moved to Cardiff after he finished playing, but came back to his native Wakefield in 1936 where he opened a shop with Jonty Parkin. He remained a Trinity fan the rest of his life.
