Tony Storey was an experienced second-row forward when he became Rovers’ first four figure signing when he was transferred for £1,000 from Bradford Northern at the start of the 1955/56 season. He had previously played at Wakefield Trinity. During his brief spell he was dogged with injuries, and after he obtained a teaching post over in Lancashire he moved to the Warrington club. Tony's brother was the author David Storey, whose debut novel "This Sporting Life", about a professional rugby league player, was later turned into a film starring Richard Harris.
