Local man Walter Booth was on the books of Halifax as a winger as a youngster. After being released, he played a single game for Featherstone Rovers at loose forward against his former club at Thrum Hall in January 1953. At that time he was a soldier based at Pontefract barracks.

His nephew, also Walter Booth was a well-known character on the local amateur scene in the 1970s and 1980s.
