With Featherstone Rovers in the third tier of professional rugby league for the first time in 2006 they took a chance on Dewsbury winger Wayne McHugh, who had already been at Rochdale, Hunslet and Batley. Originally from Airedale, McHugh had pace, ran strongly and had all the attributes to be a try machine. And so it proved. Wayne proved to be a consistent try scorer both as winger and centre at Featherstone and in three years played 75 games and notched 58 tries. With his knack of being in the right place at the right time, Wayne was the club’s top try scorer in 2006. Unfortunately, his rugby career was distracted from time to time by a series of off-field problems. In 2008, Wayne moved on to York, and later other clubs before retiring having scored a career 135 tries over ten seasons.
