Everything seemed to go against Rovers this season - ill luck, injuries and even the weather!  Rovers had 11 games cancelled, resulting in a massive fixture pile up and having to play 10 games in April. Unfortunately, many of these cancelled games were weekend games which ended up being played on a week day afternoon, when many working men couldn’t attend.  Not surprisingly gates remained low and it was something of a miracle that only a small financial loss was incurred over the season.  Early exits in both cup competitions didn’t help the finances either.  Rumours of relocating the club to Doncaster though were quickly quashed by George Johnson.

The team was becoming increasingly reliant on new young players as no players could be bought in, and a number of the stalwarts were entering the final stages of their careers.  Captain Joe Morgan, as ever, had a good year and had the unique experience of playing with two of his brothers (Luke and Tommy) in the first team.  Fred Smith headed the try scoring and was now fully demonstrating his talent.  Percy Morris was proving an effective and extremely reliable hooker playing in every game for the second season running.
