A season of genuine progress with league results improving particularly at home. Only one defeat in nine home games after xmas, and victory over eventual champions Huddersfield earlier in November, re-established Post Office Road as a formidable challenge for any visitors. Younger players were now coming to the fore. The performances of Killingbeck, Winter and Barker in the backs meant the transfers of Whittaker, Smith and Askin in previous seasons were far less noticeable. In the pack Morris, Darlison, Fox and Norbury were developing into a formidable unit. There were options at half back with the Evans brothers, Hayes, Stott and George Johnson jnr. Percy Morris was selected for Yorkshire and Ernie Winter was selected for the trial games for the 1932 GB tour.
Now reaching the veteran stage Sid and Jim Denton, Joe Morgan and Ernie Barraclough, survivors from Rovers entry to the league, were still giving great service to the club over a decade later. Jim Denton once again topped the points scoring. First round defeats in both cup competitions didn’t help finances but despite this a profit was made because of player transfers. Rovers felt confident enough in the financial position to re-establish the A team.
