Inspiring performance of Freddie Miller in his debut game v Whitehaven

“Featherstone struggle along without ever making much of a splash” was how one pundit summed up Rovers season.  Once again a large number of players were used and not once in the season did Rovers field the same side in consecutive games.  At one point Rovers looked to be heading for last place in the league but two signings made a notable improvement to the team.  Those two signings were veteran full back Freddie Miller signed from Hull, and Australian Don Graham, Rovers first ever overseas player.  Graham was loaned from Hunslet to play games before he went back to Australia and was made Rovers captain.   Miller’s first game inspired Rovers to end a 12 game losing run with victory over Whitehaven in January including a long range drop goal from Miller. Adding quality experience to a young side containing some talented players such as Laurie Gant and Arthur Wood, and new junior signings Cliff Lambert, Ray Cording and Keith Goulding showed the potential way forward at Featherstone.

Off the field supporters were busy raising money for ground improvements but the finances were in such a perilous state they loaned the £900 raised back to the club.
