A pretty disastrous season ended in relegation. The season started with the loss of three long serving team members – Chapman, Stokes and Dickens, and a key figure from 2004 play-offs scrum-half Greseque did not return. First game of the season was the first local derby with Castleford in a decade. Rovers had four players injured in this game and as the season progressed the injury list continually prevented a settled side taking the field. Initially results in the Northern Rail Cup were reasonable and this continued when the league campaign began. However, with the injuries, new signings who didn’t live up to their reputations and several players who were brought in on a trial basis with limited success, performances and spirit seemed to dissipate. Consequently, Rovers lost 11 of their last 12 league games to finish in the second relegation spot. Defensively the team was a mess conceding 78 points at home to Hull KR and 50 points at home to Batley. Coach Gary Price was unable to stop the slump and resigned. Dave Hobbs took over but was unable to stop the rot.
Off the field ground development continued with the new learning centre and ground frontage being completed.
