The home side dominated the territory during the opening stages but Moore and Briggs were able to combine, allowing Ben Hellewell to send Will Sharp in for his first try of the afternoon. The pressure continued, but when a penalty was given against Keegan Hirst and Steve Crossley for obstruction Crusaders were able to escape. This proved costly as two minutes later Michael Platt broke though two tacklers, drew his full back James Mendeika, and was able to feed the ball to Tom Gilmore supporting on his right. Tommy Johnson then converted with ease to level the scores.

The second period started positively for Featherstone with Matty Dale being held up over the line, before Moore showed his awareness as he reversed the play with an inside pass to Briggs, who darted through to score on his Rovers return with just over a minute gone.  Moore shifted the ball right to Mendeika, whose cut out pass was perfect for Sharp to score a second.  With twenty minutes remaining Spears produced an unbelievable offload to send Moore flying in to increase the lead.  This was followed five minutes later by Flanagan diving over from acting-halfback to get his name on the score sheet. Three minutes from time Sharp received a pass from Moore in a position it seemed impossible to remain in play from. He twisted through the defenders and dived for the line, with his body in an impossible position, to register a hat-trick touchdown that no other player in the division could have dreamed of scoring.
