Swinton started on the front foot, but after holding out Rovers then had their opportunity, Etu Uaisele took Greg Worthington's pass to squeeze in at the corner with less than ten minutes gone. The Lions responded through Brad Dwyer who exhibited his awareness, taking advantage of the out of position defence. Josh Barlow charged over to the left of the sticks, and Nanyn added the extras to extend their lead to six points. Lewis Hulme ran directly from acting half to score just to the left of the posts. Determined to have the last word however, Rovers hit back, spreading the ball wide to the right for Sharp to score with a minute on the clock.

After the break, Luke Teasdale initiated a sense of urgency in the home side. He burst out to the right, sending Sharp in for his second of the afternoon from 40m out. Moore made the kick and the scores were level. Minutes later Rovers extended their lead. This time Worthington spun over with three men attached to him. It didn't end there either, as Kain entered the field with a bang, making a break upfield before instigating the move out to the right to create Mendeika's first try in the corner with half an hour to play.

The Lions’ next attack proved fatal, as they appeared to be relieving pressure with a break, until the ball was stolen by the chasing Worthington. It was then switched across field, for Mendeika to score his second, in the right corner. Everything continued to click, as Moore shimmied through, Kain was held up and Etu stepped inside to secure his brace. Despite the missed conversion the lead was now twenty points, but the visitors were gifted a reply through Penny's interception try off a Kain pass, a carbon copy of the error that cost Rovers the game last season at Leigh Sports. Despite this minor lapse in concentration, Rovers had pulled off the comeback with a convincing margin.
