Rovers took the lead through a Ben Hellewell try, although Kyle Briggs was unable to convert. Minutes later it appeared they would be in again. Briggs’ kick through bounced perfectly for the onrushing Worthington. He was then able to ship it out to Hellewell once more, however this time the whitewash evaded him. This failure to finish again cost the Rovers. With almost twenty minutes gone, Leigh shifted the ball wide right, where Tom Armstrong provided the offload to see Liam Kay in to level the score.
The first half had been tense, low scoring, and both defences had put on phenomenal displays. It was therefore a shock to the system when Leigh scored a quick double, ten minutes into the second period of play. Gareth Pitman shrugged off his man to score down the right. Then Armstrong sent Kurt Haggerty clean through and, he was able to send McNally flying through on his outside. Ridyard converted both, as Featherstone saw the game slip through their fingers. Heads now dropped and Kay’s try and Brierley’s drop-goal rubbed salt in the wounds. Beswick then fended off with ease, and sliced through the line, gave it inside to Brierley.
A fight then broke out and Sharp and Sarsfield were dismissed from the field and the entire incident was put on report. Andy Kain stepped inside and Briggs converted, making the score line more respectable.
