Featherstone Rovers made two wins from two in the Championship after a 36-6 win over Swinton Lions at Heywood Road. Rovers took the lead inside five minutes, as Gareth Gale got over in the corner after being put through by a Nu Brown offload but Brown was off-target with the conversion attempt. Ten minutes later, Featherstone got their second try, as Tom Holmes gathered his own kick to score. Brown added the conversion this time as the Rovers reached double figures. A third try came straight from the kick-off, as Thomas Minns burst through the Batley kick chase and and raced away to score. Brown missed the conversion attempt. A fourth try came for the visitors, six minutes before the break with Brad Day managing to get over in the corner but too far out for Brown to convert but nevertheless the Rovers lead had now hit 20 points. They still had time to further assert their dominance right on half-time, as John Davies got himself over out wide. This time Brown converted to make it a 26 point-lead at the break.
The second half was less convincing and it took until just before the hour mark for Rovers to score again when Ben Blackmore was able to get on the end of a Holmes kick to score. Brown was off-target with the conversion attempt. Swinton got on the scoreboard five minutes later, as Mitch Cox was able to get through. Martyn Ridyard converted. However, the final word would go to the visitors when Blackmore was able to race down the left-edge and get his second try of the afternoon. Brown converted to round off a good day’s work for Rovers.
