HULL KINGSTON BEAT FEATHERSTONE ROVERS

Hull Kingston Rovers completed the official opening of Craven Park by successfully opposing Featherstone Rovers last night before 7,000 spectators. The home team made changes at half back, and Featherstone were without the services J. Denton, Hirst, Tait and Clements. The substitutes acquitted themselves very satisfactorily, however, and it was not until near the end of a spirited encounter that the home team could consider themselves safe.  Featherstone ruled the scrummages, and the half backs, Kirkham and Williams, were most energetic. The latter player, however, spoiled an otherwise clever display by holding the ball too long. The home forwards were faster collectively, and Austin and Cook, on the left wing, formed a clever combination, with Osborne always sound at full back.

In the first half Austin and Van Rooyen scored thrilling tries for Kingston, and Wynard kicked a penalty goal. Williams registered a brilliant unconverted try for the visitors, and afterwards Osborne converted tries scored by McGlone and Westerdale, the latter profiting by S. Denton's error. Woolley scored try and Wynard a goal for the visitors.
