Victory over Leeds on 10 March 1923 when Rovers were down to 10 men

Results this season demonstrated that Rovers fully deserved there place in senior football.  A league finish in the top half of the table on the back of great home form, where only the top two teams in the league (Hull and Huddersfield) managed to win.  Rovers were also involved in two epic home cup ties in front of crowds of 10,000.  Leeds backs proved a bit too strong in the second round of the Yorkshire Cup though the absence of Jack Hirst and Joe Kirkham were major factors in this.  Wigan though were extremely fortunate to beat Featherstone 14-13 in the Challenge Cup as Rovers came back from an 11 point deficit to nearly snatch victory.  Jack Hirst was in imperious form scoring one try himself and creating the other tries scored by Rovers but a mistake by Rovers reserve full back and a try from a forward pass meant Rovers fell just short.

Veteran John Willie Higson captained the side and led a pack which more than held its own.  Billy Clements became Rovers first representative player when he played for Yorkshire.  However, with the depressed state of the mining industry there were lower attendances despite the better performances.
