HULL'S CONVINCING WIN AT FEATHERSTONE

The attendance at Featherstone for this attractive match was most disappointing, only 2,400 paying for admission, and the receipts were £121. In the first few minutes Morgan snapped up a Featherstone pass at half-way, and was over the line before Featherstone knew what had happened. Kennedy converted. Before 20 minutes had gone Hull were eleven points up, but the try which Taylor scored appeared from the Press Box to have been made from a pass which was well forward. Stone made the third try, and Hull led these eleven points at the interval.

Featherstone gave a grand display the second half, but even then the visiting backs were always more reliable. Garrett scored a try almost straight from the restart. Kennedy gave Hull a 16 points’ lead with his goal-kick. Then came a try by Hirst, who from the halfway line raced away, and, cleverly shaking off Holdsworth and Samuel, scored. The kick at goal failed. Caswell followed with a fine try for Hull, and previously he and Batten had made the opening for Stone to score. Featherstone then gave of their best. Higson scored from a forward rush near the line, and a try was rightly awarded for Samuel's glaring obstruction of Mason. None of these tries were converted. A delightful game, marred by the sending off Beasty (Hull) and Hepworth (Featherstone) for what seemed a very mild offence, ended with the score—Hull goals 6 tries (22 points), Featherstone Rovers 3 tries (9 points).
