FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON FOR BRAMLEY

The game between Bramley and Featherstone Rovers, at Bramley which was watched by nearly 3,000 people, was very closely contested, and the result remained in doubt right to the close. There were plenty of exciting incidents, and as both teams repeatedly made great efforts to gain the victory, the keen struggle was always full of interest.

In the first half the Rovers had to face brilliant sunshine, but they were the first to become dangerous, and three minutes from the start, when Bramley were penalised for offside play.   Wynard had a shot at goal, but missed.  A few minutes afterwards Morgan, from a mark, put in a lofty kick, and when Holland failed to catch the ball,it rolled towards the line.  Higson promptly pounced upon it and scored a try, to which J. Denton was not able to add the goal. This reverse roused Bramley and there was some good passing by their backs, which was smartly initiated by Gadsby, but a fine opening for Kelly to score was spoilt when Wainwright knocked on. After J. Denton had failed with a penalty kick for the Rovers, Holland from a penalty, awarded against the visitors for off-side play, landed a goal. Half-time score Featherstone Rovers 1 try (3 points), Bramley 1 goal (2 points).

Just after the resumption Edmondson cut through in clever style, and the movement was carried on by Gadsby and Cripps, but determined tackling the Rovers prevented a score. Bramley were not to be denied, however, and a good passing bout by Gadsby, Edmondson, Johnson and Cripps ended in the latter swerving past Reeves and S. Denton to score a well-deserved try.
