TABLES TURNED ON HALIFAX

Featherstone Make Up Early Leeway

In a game with Halifax that was seldom brilliant Featherstone Rovers had little difficulty in maintaining their great home record. They got a shock in the first five minutes, when Price, taking a bad pass cleverly, raced over for good try, and Kitson converted with a great kick from near touch.  Right through this half the Halifax forwards gave their halves possession four times in six, but the Halifax third line showed little resource and their movements came to naught. Clements forced his way over for Featherstone before the interval, and a lovely goal by Wynard made honours even as to scores.

If on the play in the first half Halifax deserved the lead, there was no mistaking Featherstone’s superiority in the second half. The third line had some fine openings made for them by Morgan and Gill, and Jack Hirst began to show his best form. He twice bluffed the opposition and scored smart tries for James Denton to convert.

THE TABLES TURNED.

The tables were turned, and the veteran Featherstone captain, Higson, marked what may be his last season as regular player, by scoring two meritorious tries.  These were not converted. A trial was given at wing to E. Richardson, the old Normanton Rugby club player and he showed satisfactory promise. Morgan and Gill were nippier and smarter than Todd and Dickenson, and Hirst worked intelligently. Seymour played soundly at full-back.  On the Halifax side Lloyd got through an immense amount of work with distinct credit. Sherwood was an excellent loose forward and Halliday better of the “hookers”. 

The attendance was disappointing, only two thousand being present.
