Second Team Players Do Well Against Wakefield

Two thousand spectators saw a very interesting game at Featherstone, considering the terrible state of the ground. The Featherstone backs had the great advantage of playing behind a much superior pack, and they did their best to open the game out. Gill, a second teamer who has thoroughly earned his promotion, was the only scorer in the first half. His first try was a smart bit of opportunism, but the second was still better, being the finishing touch to a grand passing bout in which James Denton, Hirst, and the scorer took part.

Crossing over with a six points' lead, Featherstone always seemed sure of victory, and with Pollard off as result of his collision with his own full-back, Trinity’s inferiority in the forwards became more pronounced. That the margin was not greater than nine points is due largely to the excellent work at fullback by Siswick, who fielded and kicked with good judgment.  There is this, also, to be said for Wakefield, they provided the best try of the afternoon; a brilliant individual effort by Catterall, which was deservedly cheered all round the field. Jubb, Wakefield’s new scrum-half, deserves high praise for his skill and unbounded pluck.

Chief credit for Featherstone's victory belongs to their wonderful forwards, but these notes would be incomplete without mention of the altogether satisfactory exhibition given immediately behind the Featherstone scrum by Morgan and Seymour - second team players.  Sidney Denton, at full-back, shone quite as brightly as Siswick did, and the winning team to a man tackled in true Featherstone fashion.
