FEATHERSTONE FAIL

In Closing League Game at Salford

A splendid open game at the Weaste on Saturday completed the Rugby League programmes of the Salford and Featherstone Rovers clubs. Salford deservedly won by a margin of eight points, the score being 16 points to 8 in their favour. The Rovers were strong in the forwards but rather faulty in back play, many of the openings created Kirkham behind the scrummage being literally thrown away. Curiously enough Kirkham scored both the Rovers' tries, which were the first and last successful movements of the match. The first was the result of brilliant run by S Denton, and the second a splendid piece of anticipation on the part of Kirkham himself. Jim Denton improved one try but missed several simple place kicks.

Of the Salford tries, those obtained in the first half Norrey and Hall were delightful efforts, but the successes recorded by Southward and Brockbank in the closing half were of the gift order. Southward and Burgess each placed one goal but, like the opposition, both men failed with simple shots in front of the posts.
