Featherstone Outclassed for Speed

Huddersfield had no difficulty in defeating Featherstone Rovers, and thus they retain their unbeaten record in the County League. Play developed into a struggle between the forwards, and in the pack Featherstone easily held their own, but they were not up the standard of the Fartown men in loose play.  Huddersfield were the faster side, and the lack of speed among the Featherstone backs prevented them from carrying good midfield efforts to a satisfactory conclusion.

The Rovers are to be complimented on their stubborn defensive tactics, but, at times, several of their men showed a lamentable weakness for taking unnecessary risks with the ball when near their own line. Huddersfield never failed to take advantage these mistakes, and May, in particular, was a clever opportunist.

The experiment was tried in the Fartown team of playing Reid at full back and though he was unsteady in the opening half, he improved after the interval, but his kicking was not up to standard. Rogers and his partner were too clever for the opposition, and Wagstaff impressed one as being the best man in the three-quarter line.  S.Denton gave a sound display full back for the Rovers, and his splendid tackling was one of the features of the match.  Hirst was the pick of the three-quarters and Kirkham was a strenuous worker.
